HR professionals of the new century are a bridge between the company’s keymen and their most valuable assets; human capital. There may be others with more extrinsic value such as company physical assets but we often forget the drivers behind those that bring value to those assets. A company will only survive and thrive with good human capital and not the other way round with physical assets. A company needs to run and produce, not sit on those assets and wait for them to grow. You lead them into playing a beautiful piece but yet you hold no instrument. You are the silent yet glorious player of the team.

 

Making sure that the company invests in your fellow colleagues to bring out the best in them is vital in the progression of the whole company. The returns of investing in human capital has been time and time again been shown to raise productivity levels. Your colleagues will also feel good that the company sees the potential in them and is willing to develop the best in them. This in turn creates a sense of belonging to the company. You would not want to be hosting so many farewell and welcome lunches and dinners since you are pretty much the only ones that stay the longest in the company. You are also strategic partner to the company. You provide the best solutions to the allocation of human resources. You are in the management of the most valuable asset of the company. By doing so, you will realize that you are also one of the change agents of the company. No longer are you just a department of routines. You are the ones that puts yourself into the shoes of your fellow colleagues, understand their concerns and issues. Then strategically raise them up to the higher ups to devise a solution where all parties could be better off. It is rather similar to a motherly role, where mothers do not wait for their child to tell them that they are hungry. They act upon it because they care. HR professionals need to care and more importantly, act upon issues that may be arising. Only then will your colleagues love you for what you do. Ultimately, it is closely similar to treating your kin, and also serving with a heart of gold and not just take this career as a job. Only then will you derive a higher sense of achievement and satisfaction emotionally.
